Some RA.One reviews were silly: SRK

Shah Rukh Khan’s over-ambitious superhero project RA.One received quite a few negative reviews in India. “I was reading some reviews and they were silly. They are looking into some other aspect of filmmaking.”
Internationally, he claims that the Anubhav Sinha directorial got a great response. “LA Times has carried a fantastic movie review,” he insists, before adding, “We presented the film to a lot of people from Fox (Fox Studios, US) and we spoke to the foreign press on the technical aspect of RA.One. It’s important that we promote this ideology and explain to the world that we can do it.”

But the real challenge he claims to face is “showing the world that India too can make high-tech films.”
And to facilitate the same, he has set up a technically advanced studio in the city, which he used for the postproduction of RA.One. “The good news is that the studio is two or three years ahead of any other. This is the first step in that direction,” says the actor-producer, adding, “This is the time to bring this genre to India. And I have started it. Instead of cribbing, if you want to modernise and make different movies, you have to use this technology.”
Till Friday, RA.One had collected over Rs 60 cr at the box office in India, the film’s spokesperson claims. “I feel relieved to see it open well. I’ve been travelling, so I wasn’t able to follow the figures much. All my partners now feel that they’ll be able to recover their money.”

  2. I disagree completely. If you watch the movie without any bias towards any actor and with a clean mind...you will love the movie. I watched the movie in 3D and let me tell you I was in awe that I was watching an Indian movie...I laughed, I cried and I was on the edge of my seat..absolutely loved every bit of it. I will watch it again if I could. I understand why Indians might not like or understand the movie and why movies like dabangg and singh is king with cheap jokes and no stories do well in India..because you need a certain level of intellect to be able to watch Ra one...most ppl in india are uneducated and will never understand the movie. Where I watched the movie in Canada...ppl absolutely loved it because they understood it..I do think it was too long though..the fight at the end was too long and the end was predictable. I DO NOT think that srk should make a sequel though because although the movie worked in india this time because of curiosity it will not work in india again cuz ppl will not understand it so I hope he saves his money. He wanted to make a mark and he did...the movie is pathbreaking..but he should leave it at that..

  3. “I was reading some reviews and they were silly. They are looking into some other aspect of filmmaking.”

That 2nd sentence should clarify why he said so. This movie was not about presenting a deep story to India or the world. He did that with MNIK! It was about the following things and the makers of Ra.One have repeated this umpteen times before and after the release of the film:

    1. Introducing new and advanced technology to Indian films.
    2. Marketing and packaging Indian films in a way that is acceptable to an international audience used to Hollywood movies.
    3. Introducing the superhero genre to India with an international touch.
    4. Making a movie for kids.
    5. Basically making an entertaining movie that people would enjoy watching for 2.5 hours.

Keeping these in mind, they succeeded in all of the above 5. Some of the positive reviews that included Taran Adarsh's review were from analysts who knew the point of this film and they knew it will make money and soon. That is why they gave it positive reviews. It has already made about 76 Cr as of Saturday evening. Soon it will reach 100 Cr and will join the league of the 100 Cr movies and might even go beyond considering SRK's popularity overseas and that so far it is making darn good business overseas and has mostly received positive reviews in the west.

Also, considering the number of mindless movies that are coming out now-a-days back to back and making good business too (Ready, Dabangg, Wanted, Bodyguard, etc...), these analysts also knew that Ra.One will make good business too, especially coz Ra.One is nowhere as mindless and stupid as these movies!

Guess Taran Adarsh was not so wrong. Clearly he knew what was going to happen and unlike many he actually appreciated SRK for daring to make such a movie, hence his positive review! And now he is having the last laugh!
