The 1st Week Collections of the most awaited box office clash of the year are now in. While Dilwale had a kickstart on its Day 1 with INR 21.50 Crores, Bajirao Mastani had a humbler start with INR 12.80 Crores. The 1st weekend collections of the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dilwale stood at INR 65.09 Croresand that of Bajirao Mastani at INR 46.77 Crores.
Many were surprised with the way Bajirao Mastani picked up on its 1st Sunday and maintained a consistent box office number over the weekdays. Rave reviews and positive word of mouth ensured the movie raked in a 1st Week Total of INR 86.15 Crores. On the other hand Dilwale faced quite a bumpy ride thanks to the Intolerance Debate and Bans on the film in few states. The SRK-Kajol comeback film still made a mammoth INR 97 Crores in its 1st Week at the domestic box office. One can only image if not for the issues at hand what would the film have collected.
Despite Dilwale managing a much bigger Box Office collection over the weekend, Bajirao Mastani'sweekday numbers were higher than that of the former. The best performing circuit for Dilwale has been Mumbai with West Bengal, Nizam / Andhra, Mysore and Tamil Nadu / Kerala in close persuit. Bajirao Mastani has done extremely well in the Mumbai Circuit and others closely followed suit.
The clash gives a clear indication to the maturity of the cinelovers of the country. One cannot simply take them for a ride with avreage content. Time and again good content seems to be picking up owing to positive word of mouth.
With the release of popular international franchise Star Wars - The Force Awakens, both the movies might take a small hit this week. What will be the resuly? Only time can tell.
