National award winner and music legend Yesudas on Thursday sparked a row when he made a statement against women wearing jeans.
At a inaugural cleanliness drive under Swachh Bharat Campaign at Thiruvananthapuram, Yesudas commented saying, "Women should not trouble others by wearing jeans. When they put on jeans, men are tempted to look beyond that".
The singer further added, "Women’s beauty lies in their modesty. They should not try to become like men. They should not force others to do unnecessary things by wearing jeans, which would give them magnetism".
The singers comments caused a row with the Mahila Congress activists taking out a protest march in the city. Social media too has been buzzing with opinions on his statement.
The 74 year old singer has been conferred with Padma Sri and Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India for his contributions towards the art.
