Here is the review for the movie Bobby Jasoos. Watch out this space for more updates!
Rating:3.5/5 Review By:Subhash K Jha Site:IANS
"Bobby Jasoos" works so well because it creates a unique yet relatable world for its female hero without making her seem super-vulnerable (like Kangana Ranaut in 'Queen') or super-confident (like Shabana Azmi in her best roles). Like Vidya's multiple disguises, the film's ability to surprise never flags. If Bobby/Bilkis revels in a sense of adventure the narration doesn't lag behind. You can find flaws here. But you won't hold them against the film. That's a guarantee.

The movie, which begins on a promising but languid note as a thriller set in a vibrant metropolis such as Hyderabad, morphs into a reluctant love story. Bobby gets side-tracked and the climax scenes, which should ideally be a crackling clincher to the mystery, come across as an afterthought. The suspense to the drama was so lame that we felt bad for the feisty Bobby and Balan: both deserved a riveting, gripping ending.

‘Bobby Jasoos’ is a fair attempt at doing something different, it fails to leave an impression because it’s unable to break-free from Bollywoocd stereotypes. But due credit must be given to costume designers Theia Tekchandaney and Sheetal Sharma for changing the way Bollywood looks at disguises. At least, wearing a wig or specs isn’t the only way to look different. Despite the hype, ‘Bobby Jasoos’ just doesn’t make the cut. At least, not for us, especially since we cracked the case even before Bobby did.

As for the performances, Vidya Balan looks at complete ease playing the bubbly, happy-go-lucky Bobby, or the many avatars she sports in the film. Ali Afzal looks every inch the character he plays: Bobby's friend Tassavur, who cannot stand up to his father, and always in awe of the hero that Bobby is. He brings in a certain cute charm to the film. Supriya Pathak, Zarina Wahab, Kiran Kumar and Rajendra Gupta also suit their roles well. Samar, a debut director, has come out with a decent film. He would do well to choose his scripts wisely -- ones that have a complete story. For all the fun that Vidya is, Bobby Jasoos ends up a bit too abrupt -- in the end, we don't know if Bobby eventually became a jasoos. We also don't know what happened to the Ali-Vidya love story. Watch Bobby Jasoos, if you must, for Vidya's performance and the chemistry she shares with Ali.

Bobby Jasoos may not be evenly engaging, but it stays uncompromisingly true to its essence. Although it is Vidya Balan who is the focal point of the film, Bobby Jasoos is by no means a one-woman show. The narrative is peopled with an array of relatable characters. Bobby Jasoos has no item numbers, no cheap thrills, and none of the usual trappings of a wannabe blockbuster. But it has Vidya Balan in fine fettle, and that should be reason enough for you to go out and watch the film.

In short, Bobby's the sort of girl with whom you can't help but fall in love. So go see Bobby Jasoos. With a little help from her friends and family, she'll make you happier than you've felt in ages.

Vidya Balan is known to walk that extra mile to get the character right. The supremely talented actress, who is seen in a variety of disguises in BOBBY JASOOS and speaks in Hyderabadi accent, is the soul of the film. She embraces the part with all the power that she can muster and is absolutely brilliant. Ali Fazal is a complete revelation. Although pitted against a powerhouse performer like Vidya, Ali makes his presence felt with a wonderful performance. On the whole, BOBBY JASOOS has an interesting premise, but the writing plays the spoilsport. The saving grace and also the USP is Vidya Balan for sure, but is that enough to salvage the film?
