Here is the movie review for Dedh Ishqiya:

While ISHQIYA was earthy and rustic, one gets to witness an alternate universe in DEDH ISHQIYA. There's a lot of poetry, music and color this time around. At the same time, there are layers to the story that baffle you. Garnished with chaste Urdu and peppered with unconventional humor and simmering sexuality, the characters indulge in a treacherous game yet again. Also, it's far more complex this time around... and the truth hits you like a ton of bricks! This time, it's even more dicey and perilous. On the whole, DEDH ISHQIYA is a worthy follow up to the widely admired ISHQIYA. Powerful writing, superb direction and outstanding performances make DEDH ISHQIYA a must watch. Just don't miss it!

Set in a decadent and picturesque North Indian heartland that's filled with loveable criminals, this film has everything you could ask for in exchange of the price of a movie ticket. There are love triangles, a bromance, a delicious villain, multiple twists, car chases and, of course, lots of humour. Compared to Ishqiya, Dedh Ishqiya is far more elaborate, complicated and ambitious.Dedh Ishqiya is an absolute delight because all its parts fit beautifully.

Bollywood doesn't have a fabulous track record when it comes to doling out sequels. In most cases, they seem as excuses to make more money than to tell an engrossing tale, show character development or paint a new, vivid world. Director Abhishek Chaubey accomplishes all of the above and thereby makes a compelling case that sequels are not redundant. Here's a sequel which is totally worth the moolah. That's because Ishqiya doesn't want to be a successful franchise, it wants to be a good movie which keeps the viewers entertained.

Notwithstanding the title, there are no half measures in Dedh Ishqiya. From dilkashi to junoon, the start and end point respectively of Khalujaan’s take on the seven stages of love, the film has them both and everything in between and beyond.Dedh Ishqiya is a must watch.

Dedh Ishqiya can come in the category of hard hitting films, which have left an indelible mark on Indian audience in last couple of years. The film rides on a good story, great acting performances, brilliant screenplay, interesting dialogues and a twist, which will leave you awestruck. For all the cinema lovers, who prefer acting and story over masala, it’s time to book your seats.

Dedh Ishqiya is a sequel to the zany 2010 black comedy Ishqiya. Like its prequel, the idiom and the setting are rural. The spoken language is Hindi with a peppering of heavy-duty Urdu. Thank God for the English subtitles in circuits except the Hindi belt! What's also nice is the contemporary thought woven in (with references to Iphone-5 and hamburgers in New York). So, the desi-yuppies can connect. Vishal Bharadwaj's dialogue keeps you in splits. The free usage of words like sex and chu**yapaa tickle the funny bone. Naseer is back in super-form after straying in outings like Jackpot. Ditto Arshad. Madhuri looks gorgeous but the dhak-dhak girl (now woman) falls short on the oomph meter, as compared to Vidya Balan in Ishqiya. Huma Qureshi is interesting.

Dedh Ishqiya is smarter, funnier, richer and way more gorgeous than its predecessor. If you're a fan of clever lines with terrific actors, great writing, masterful direction and Urdu poetry, Dedh Ishqiya hits your sweet spot. If you don’t really give a damn about any of this and just want a fun time at the movies, Dedh Ishqiya is perhaps the most hilarious thriller Bollywood has produced.

It's dedh times more wicked than Ishqiya and it flaunts Madhuri Dixit's return. Dedh Ishqiya would be worth a watch if only for as much, but there is plenty more in store (as expected) that shouts out loud for applause. Dedh Ishqiya makes desi go dangerous all over again. It's a whopper of a start for Bollywood in 2014. In a line, not to be missed.

A rollicking, irreverent and well-executed film, Chaubey’s sequel to his 2010 debut has more of the sparkling dialogue and wit, but better etched characters, and a story that will keep the viewer engaged till the end. They are the main reasons you should buy a ticket for “Dedh Ishqiya”, but not the only reason.

Despite the name, the film has nothing in half measures about it. It is a decadent masterpiece and a wholesome entertainer with streaks of romance, comedy, poetry and social commentary making it a fulfilling treat. Abhishek Chaubey topples the standards he set by his last film Ishqiya and delivers a more intricate and more pioneering work of outright genius. In myriad ways Dedh Ishqiya is notches higher than its predecessor and the most gluing factors in this one are its narrative and performances. If you can rise above the populist strains of cinema, Dedh Ishqiya reserves for you a deeply satisfying and enormously enjoyable film. Dedh Ishqiya is a sexy film. Mystically poignant, grippingly lucid, dark, subtle and so invigorating-ly well performed. It’s not everyday that you stumble upon near perfect films which entertain you so enthralling-ly. This movie was worth every buck and there should be no reason to miss this film.

Back in 2010, there was `Ishqiya`, and now, there is `Dedh Ishqiya`, albeit with edgier characters and a plot that will keep you glued to the screen right till the end. Every thing about `Dedh Ishqiya` stands on its own and stands out. Whether you watch it for the Begum`s magic or Babban and Khalu – this caper is sure to delight you.

On the whole, director Abhishek Chaubey takes a leap by picking up the baton and deserves colossal praise for handling action, comedy, romance and social critique with dexterity. The astuteness, jibe, silliness and sophistication, all brought together are a treat to watch. The viewers will love themselves losing from dilkashi to junoon. A deliciously nouvelle continuation, that is strictly *not-to-be-missed*!

There is much to be liked in the film, and I wish all of it had been as good as the scintillating bits. The trouble is not just with the pace. Some of the lines, terrific as they are, seem to be added in just so that the characters can revel in their own perfect Urdu delivery. And the ladies are a problem. The one who had my attention right through was Vijay Raaz, who was last so good in ‘Raghu Romeo’ : as a local `neta’ and unpolished man of means, paying ardent suit to Begum Para, he is marvelous. ‘Dedh Ishqiya’ has its high points, but it isn’t a stayer. Next time I want `dhai’ all the way.
Ratings:3/5 Review By:Khalid Mohamed Site: Deccan Chronicle
Madhuri Dixit radiates sufficient charisma, although subverted by a role that doesn’t challenge her with dramatic pyrotehnics. Huma Khan is convincing, thanks to her ability to carry out quicksilver moods. And Arshad Warsi, kept under leash, is so much more believable than he was in last week’s Mr Joe B Carvalho. As the lovelorn lothario, Naseeruddin Shah rocks, an actor who doesn’t have to resort to any kind of simple illustrative gestures to convey his character’s pain and pleasures.
Taken in sum, then, Dedh Ishqiya is different and it’s audacious – not without its sack of snafus though. It’s a could-see.
Ratings:2.5/5 Review By:Naresh Kumar Deoshi Site:Apun Ka Choice
Dedh Ishqiya takes the viewer into poetic reverie with some thoughtful couplets from Bashir Badr and with equal flourish it smacks in the obscene expletives. Verily watchable, but no great shakes to rave about, Dedh Ishqiya is fun as long as it lasts, but it gives you nothing to carry home except the feeling of being caught leg-before without losing the ‘gilli’. Muqarrar!

The sets, the costumes, the music, the dialogues... It transports you into a bygone era. The chemistry between Arshad and Naseer is as zingy as it was in the prequel. Ditto for Madhuri and Huma (there is a hint of something more to their closeness). Vijay Raaz is delightful. Vishal Bhardwaj's dialogues are one of the biggest highlights of the film. Too much shudh Urdu in the first half, which audiences will struggle to understand. Yes, there are subtitles but it makes you wish the makers had used simpler language. You loved Ishqiya? If you don't go expecting the same magic, you'll enjoy this one too.
