BARFI - Does it deserve all the critical acclaim ?

All of us loved Barfi! . Everyone went gaga over how the film looked and how it touched our hearts! A lot of critics gave it 4- 4.5 stars which is saying a LOT. But now a lot of people have been finding out too many scenes to be completely lifted from other sources.

Please note - none of these are my findings , I am reporting what I read on this Blog . Tanqeed first discovered it and then it started to seem more of a copy/paste job instead of calling it an inspiration.
Anurag Basu and the entire cast have already said that it has been inspired by Chaplin movies but one look at all the scenes and it looks like a direct lift. Paying homage is okay but copying the entire scene exactly is going a bit too far and they should have credited the original source in the movie credits instead of claiming it to be completely original. Some of the sources happen to be movies like "The Notebook", "Amelie", old hindi film "Koshish", old Chaplin movies, Buster Keaton movies to name a few.
So my question is , does Barfi deserve all the critical acclaim that came its way considering the fact that some of the key scenes , the plot and the background soundtrack might be picked up from several sources? You decide!
Here are the copied scenes
A scene from Notebook enacted by Ileana and her mom Rupa Ganguly
The last scene from Barfi is again copied from Notebook

A scene copied from Koshish
The background score inspired from Amelie

  1. I completely agree that the ‘Rupa Ganguly and Ileana drove to wood factory” scene and “Old Ranbir and Jhilmil sleeping togethre in hospital bed” scenes have been copied from The Notebook. Dont know about other scenes.
