His story offers little novelty as it follows the tried and tested path of two bosom pals falling in love with the same girl, falling out with each other because of that, etc. His screenplay is replete with scenes one has seen in the films of the 1970s and 1980s. On the whole, Gunday is an ordinary fare with two aspects going hugely in its favour – very good music and the flying start it has taken. It will, therefore, prove to be a comfortably paying proposal for all concerned.

Gunday's heart is in the right place but the plot gets overwhelmed by its own voluptuousness, its slick torsos and slow-motion slaps, its extended Durga Puja which leaves it lost between Calcutta's cabarets and Dhanbad's dark mines. However, Gunday's fun while it lasts.More depth, more fire would've sharpened this film. But Gunday offers glitter coating a grim tale.

Gunday is the sort of film some people may mistakenly call a bromance. There is, however, nothing bro-tastic at all about this loud and slow-motion actioner, a film that tries hard to be old-school but proves only that its makers need to be schooled. Calling it a throwback seems insulting enough; imagine the Once Upon A Time In Mumbai films without Ajay Devgan, Emraan Hashmi and Akshay Kumar.

For all its swagger and insolence, the script is full of silly loopholes, annoying clichés and glaring superficiality. No matter how hard Zafar tries to create an action hero that speaks Amitabh Bachchan/Anil Kapoor/Raaj Kumar (at one point I could almost hear "Jaani" before Kapoor's Bala declares, "Yeh tevar humare khoon main hai") he fails to substantiate it with charisma that goes beyond surface value. Finally, there’s Irrfan Khan, wearing the expression of a man standing in the middle of a mess -- that is Gunday.

Most landmarks of Hindi cinema have invariably been buddy flicks. Though not always blessed with technical bravado, their hearts have been in the right place. Gunday fails to fulfill that basic aspect- leaving you mildly enraged with the hope of what could have been, especially given the inexhaustible resources at hand.

Despite being packed with liberal servings of kitsch and colourful quirks from the flamboyant 70s, three good-looking actors and incredible tunes reminiscent of a glorious past, Ali Abbas Zafar’s visual extravaganza ‘Gunday’ doesn’t have enough soul to have us hooked. Although the run-up to ‘Gunday’, what with foot-tapping music tracks and tightly edited trailers, was promising, the movie didn't quite match our expectations. Sadly, this one doesn’t get our “thumb-print” but our thumbs-down!

Gunday is an ode to bombastic 1970s cinema that rides on the steam of heroic men who can deliver punchy one-liners. Of the two boys, it’s Singh who shines like a diamond. His act is comparatively polished, while Kapoor comes across as a petulant boy who needs some sense to be shaken into him. Chopra can work a sari like nobody else and tries to pump some pizzazz into a predictable role. Be sure to watch out for Irrfan Khan as a conniving, ruthless cop. He belongs to the subtle school of acting and we wish that our boys (who refuse to grow up into men) had taken a few pointers from him. If you dig those loud ’70s capers, Gunday is right up your street.

Gunday is miles away from being a bad film though the passion of the film was too superficial to engage audiences in a vehement narrative. It is Irrfan Khan’s hypnotic cameo, Ranveer’s energy, the superb dialogues and the thrill for that remains for most part which works off as the whiff for magic for this clumsy film that indulges in superfluities more than substance. Afterall undeniably Gunday is a sexy show nevertheless that deserves to be watched for the oomph in it and bombastic dialogues that have gone missing from films lately. Gunday rocks for not resorting commercial crassy mores. It is no Sholay but it is just as over-the-top as any 70s’ caper. Now it is up to you to classify it as good or bad.

The eye candy on liberal display in Gunday isn’t buttressed with enough narrative energy. It really is difficult to keep a two-and-a-half-hour film from losing its wheels when its engine room is bereft of the propellant of genuine inspiration.Gunday is like the dusty minefields it is set in. Its loud explosions deliver loads of coal, but no trace of any diamonds. It is certainly not the ideal date film on this Valentine’s Day weekend.

Not sure if it's a perfect film to watch on Valentines Day but let me assure you that you won't regret paying for the ticket of this film. It's packed with action, emotions, friendship, drama and some terrific performances. Gunday is an entertaining film. It's old wine in a new bottle and it tastes awesome!

The entire look and feel of the movie is of 80s Bollywood. It`s like travelling back in time, where there were no metro-sexual heroes and the modern heroines. It is not a Valentine day date, but the men should make a day out to celebrate their friendship with this movie. The film has nothing new to offer, but one can watch it for nostalgia sake once!

This could have been an entertaining film. It could have been involving and exciting. It is long, exhausting and more fluff than fun. The drama, romance and comedy fail to take off. There is only a slight glimmer of bromance that is leftover. No amount of twists or style can make up for a well-told story. Gunday is too much too soon and too little too late.

‘Gunday’ is as generic as its name suggests: even that old phrase ‘luchchhe- lafangey’ had more character. In the name of plot, we get a mash-up of many popular blockbusters, several of them belonging to Yashraj, the producers of this one. In the name of acting, we get pumped up beefcake and one number plumped-lip eye candy. There are a few solid supporting acts, and they are the ones that keep you watching, but they get buried in the sludge. What you get is what you’ve been getting. Over and over again.

GUNDAY is smartly penned, lavishly mounted and sharply edited... and it carpet bombs the spectators with every trick in the book. The bromance, the romance, the gunday versus cop clash, the burst of colors, the unpredictable screenwriting coupled with smart lines, the spray of bullets... the director, who has also penned the film, makes sure he leaves his stamp all over the film. GUNDAY has a credible story to tell, is packed with unexpected twists that keep you on the edge and offers entertainment in large doses. This racy, gripping masala fare is sure to hit the pot of gold at the box-office!
