Many, many times during this overlong film, we hear that the underworld company formed by the protagonist is just a thought, and not an actual entity that can be snuffed out by the cops. Much in the same vein, 'Satya 2' is not so much an engaging film as it is an interesting idea that Varma squanders away with a hackneyed script, and an ensemble of over-actors. I'm going with one-and-a-half out of five for Ram Gopal Varma's Satya 2. We've been waiting for a film that gives us a fresh take on crime in the city. Sadly, this is not that film.

Satya 2' (unlinked sequel), thrives on randomness and implausible ideas. The supporting cast is too weak, and the unforgettable bhaichara, the potbellied Kallu maamas and boisterous Bhikus (of Satya fame) are sorely missed. RGV relies on his trademark camera angles, close-ups and deafening 'Satya' chants (background score) to heighten drama, but guns down the plot at the onset. Even a good hangover of the remarkable prequel might have salvaged this one. Truth be told, iss film ko goli maaro, and for the sake of nostalgia, watch the original, for posterity.

Satya 2 didn't need to be called Satya 2. There's no connection to the original Satya whatsoever. If anything, christening this film Satya 2 is a sign of Ram Gopal Verma's despair; trying to cash in on the film that made him a true force. The original Satya fueled the imagination of audiences and provided nourishment in its success for filmmakers who wanted to bring change to Hindi cinema with its unseen treatment of the genre. It's unfortunate that the "sequel" will have few takers, much less inspire anyone.

Like RGV's previous endeavors, SATYA-2 is loaded with style and attitude. The plot too is shades different from the earlier films in this genre, with RGV moulding it in the thriller format and unleashing the screenplay at a feverish pace. The fact that SATYA-2 is not inspired by any of the gangster films attempted earlier keeps you on the edge and heightens the curiosity. But there are hiccup. . On the whole, SATYA-2 may not be RGV's best, but there's no denying that it has the right elements that make a quintessential gangster film. However, the KRRISH-3 wave coupled with the arrival of another Superhero film [THOR: THE DARK WORLD] may affect its business prospects.

All in all, the story and screenplay are kiddish and achieve no purpose – they neither succeed in spreading fear among the viewers nor do they entertain the audience. Radhika Anand’s dialogues are ordinary. On the whole, Satya 2 is not at all a worthy sequel to Satya. At the box-office, it will fail to perform. It has taken a dull start and there are very bleak chances of box-office collections picking up anywhere.

The film is categorised as an action thriller. But there is very little action. Characters spend most of their time talking, brokering deals and playing the "dimag ka khel". As for the thriller part of it, there's not much there either unless you enjoy the way the camera voyeuristically pans to Chitra's naval or Special's scantily clothed form.It is a little hard to believe that this is the film that RGV chose to be a sequel to his most iconic creation. All I can say is that Satya 2 is as bad as Satya was good.

Satya defined a Bollywood genre and earned instant cult following. Fifteen years on, Satya 2 defies all logic. Pretty much like he had done with his ill-advised remake of Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay, Ram Gopal Varma unabashedly trivialises an idea that had worked famously the first time around, Satya, the ultimate guns-and-gangs sage, was clearly in no need of re-interpretation. So, what on earth was RGV thinking? For all its obvious warts, Satya 2 may not be as insufferable as RGV Ki Aag, but it comes quite close to being a total creative disaster.

'Satya 2', which in every way is as forgettable as the original was memorable. It is a disaster, not just as a sequel, but as a stand-alone, and it makes me nostalgic for the RGV that used to be. You want to ask RGV: what was he thinking? Or has he abandoned it altogether now? 'Satya' was a gamechanger. 'Satya 2' is not even in the game. 'Goli maar bheje mein'.

I thought the worst of Ram Gopal Varma was Aag but the man has created a new joiner for Bollywood’s league of most scummy films ever made. Even in the worst of films, there is always something to appreciate. If you love cinema, refrain from watching Satya 2. It is a horror that the devil himself got down to inflict on us!

His Satya is given the responsibility to rewrite the “destiny of the city of Mumbai”, a point that the narrator constantly justifies during the tedious screenplay. A deafening background further establishes the murky trade, and the lanky hero’s journey from a nobody to one of the most conniving and invincible criminal in town in a matter of months.Surely, RGV believes being bad is quite easy. But, it falls flat due to his insincere show of sympathy and revenge.
