Bipasha Basu supporting child labour *Update -Asha Ashish© impacts Indian Media*

*Hot Update* - Our voices seem to have made a difference. This was reported in the Hindustan Times and in Mid-day .

Given that she will soon be a hollywood star as she is acting in the hollywood movie Singularity, she needs to be careful on what she tweets. This could be a huge issue in the west where child labour[if at all this is true] is totally looked down upon and is a crime.

Here is the whole story.

Bipasha Basu tweeted about an hour ago "I need to learn to tie shoe laces asap!Embarassed that I can't!No patience grrrrr! Promise I am not spoilt! Will learn soon" and tagged it with a picture. Yes, the one you see above. After she tweeted it, she started getting strong responses like...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"no child labour"

"Are they two kids ? I think its child labour ? ??"

"awww..didnt expected this from u..people follow u for ur good work"

"Look at those children. U shud be shameful for supporting her"

"Oh god, people should just chill out. Like you guys wouldnt do her laces! I god damn would! Lol."

"wt r u trying to tell us from dis.i never thought u were such a .i admired u i should slap myself"

"what the f**k is dis ....having money is not the thing u should hav common sense....."

"OMG !!!!!!"

"Bipasha should be arrested for this act. Only then these film studios will not do any child labour"

"Disgraceful Bips - cannot believe you are dumb enough to add this photo on Twitter!"

"Miss basu it looks like child labour evn though i suppose not.."

"Inform the Child labour protection act? Lol i guess bips went to school on slippers"

"This is how we treat fellow indians. Shame on you Bipasha. Unfollowed you shameless!"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What's more shocking was, she deleted the tweet instantly but forgot to delete the twitpic (picture).

She could face serious charges for this. Indian Child Labour act says Law Breakers could face one month to 12 months in jail .

Your thoughts?

Just 10 minutes ago Bipasha deleted the picture and tweeted this "Well the ppl helping me in the pix r my friend n sister,Who I help often with the same!So am sorry if it hurt anyones sentiments!"

She just said (in the tweet that she deleted) that she still needs to learn how to tie laces so where did this, "I often help them with the same" come from. White lies!

Also, weird because why would she have to delete the picture if they were really her 'friend' and 'sister'?

Someone tweeted this to Mr Amitabh Bachchan. here was his response
@Bharat_Hyd and why would you assume that these are a film stars feet ..!!

Here's what the HT story says -

With Twitterati wrath getting too hot to handle, Bipasha instantly deleted the picture from her page. But, by then, Bollywood portal  had already saved the image and posted it on their website. Basu then tweeted in her defence, “Well the ppl helping me in the pix r my friend n sister, Who I help often with the same! So am sorry if it hurt anyones sentiments (sic)!”

However, fans weren’t impressed with this explanation, with one even pointing out that if she didn’t know how to tie shoelaces, how could she possibly be helping others with it! “She should have known better. Isn’t she a smart, intelligent woman? She must know how serious an issue child labour is,” says DU student Sushant Bhatia. “I can’t believe she could be so dumb. She should be ashamed of not knowing how to tie laces, and then making kids do it!” says Nalini Singh, 21. A Twitter follower of actor Amitabh Bachchan sent him the pic asking for his comments, to which Bachchan said: “Why would you assume that these are a film stars feet ..!! (sic)”

When confronted about the incident at a press conference in Delhi yesterday, Basu said, “I’ve said everything I had to, on Twitter. I don’t think it was child labour at all.” She did not answer when asked to identify the two young girls. (Whoa, now it's confirmed that those two young girls were certainly not her 'friend' and 'sister'. I mean, if she has no problems revealing their 'identity' on Twitter, why would she have any problems disclosing the same to the media?).

  1. Bipasha is stupid to tweet something like that but the girls in the picture don't looks like children to me .... they are just middle class young girls dressed normally .... I doubted they are her sister and friend because she wouldn't remove the pic otherwise but that picture is stupid and she's stupid to post it.

BTW who ever said Aish never endorsed fair and lovely lol .... her body is an ad for skin lightening because even back in in Devdas times the pics of her with SRK she was like 1 shade lighter thn him she was very dark and looked witchy .... to me her body is a whole ad for skin lightening.

  5. First of all, it's a national tragedy of India that our most precious resource, our kids-- have to work. In India, we spend more time and attention on our movie stars and foreign VIPS and impressing the 'West'... than on the potential of our children- especially in our lowest labor class. But the way to tackle the root of the problem-- many differ on it.

-> nobody is supporting Bips on child labor issues bcoz 'everyone' does it. If she has kids working for her, it's terrible; though an everyday reality in India. if she's truly broken laws, sure-- she has to be prosecuted, to the extent of any Indian citizen. But then so should all the citizens of India who have broken them too-- it's unfair to single out one person (even with 200K tweets, she is NOT the voice fo the nation!).. while the entire country participates in it.

but still, so far, it's going on supposition rather than hard facts, in the case of Bips (the way you strongly indicate she LIED-- what proof do you have for her LIE?). and it is a little hypocritical to get all *shudders* *shudders* on her still unproven child-violation labor laws (the 'kids' could be over 13 easily, which makes it legal)-- when we all know nearly the entire India is doing it daily. and yes, the one on the right still does look like her younger sis (who looks very young)-- so far you have not convinced of this lie yet (although it could be real).

Even the Child Labor Services no longer enforces their laws in India due to crippling poverty-- and KNOW children are working. Read their site. The country realizes unless the poverty issue is addressed and/or some stable welfare is formed for them-- children will be working-- and they no longer enforce the rules as much. They focus more on preventing abuse of the kids working, rather than preventing them from working. It is a SAD REALITY. :(

And you say you call services when you see child-laws being broken? So when you walk in Delhi or Mumbai, you are calling Child services for every child you see working-- seriouly? there are MILLIONS working all over India all over. you may be calling all day and night. seriously???!!! And you do realize, no Child Labor service is currently going to stop the kids from working-- right now they are tackling abuse of them.

It may be more productive instead to use this forum to think on how we can really help the kids get out of their situation and tackling poverty/lack of opportunites which put them in the first place: color equality and esteem building (most of these kids face huge color discrimination which keeps them in their 'lot' and suffer from a belief that they are 'lesser'), free and safe welfare/shelter, encouraging adoption in India and overseas for them, discouraging over-population, free education, and opportunites.

When is the REAL root going to be tackled- the poverty?
Till then, you have a catch-22. Kids work and suffer or are on the streets .

  6. I'm finding it hard to believe that those girls are her sister and friend, how old is her friend?!

Not being able to tie your shoelaces isn't exactly cute...it is dumb...She endorses reebok shoes, she is known to be one of the most athletic stars, she is 30+...yet she doesn't know how to tie he shoelaces...shame
Guess she wanted people to say awww how cute...
Seriously if she doesn't know how (which is really umm weird) then she needs to LEARN. That's so cheap...we get it you're a dumb celebrity but atelast have the decency to ACT intelligent, damit !

  8. What the Hell Actress basically had Wellington airport at New Zealand almost shut down for 40 minutes to let Ms Diva Bipasha Basu speed down the runway. Bipasha clearly show no remorse on what she is done! Great role model for the young up coming Bollywood stars! Interesting enough none of the press has picked up, thank you for exposing this B grade bollywood star!

  10. she is a celeb and the media(twitter) is the voice of people":

oh wow.. India has really hit rock bottom when celebs via tweeter have become the voice of the people!! Did Bips come out and say she is a moral celeb guardian of the youths of India or something? No.. she posted a photo which was insensiitive and she removed it. that's it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. how much do desis make all their celebs into priests and nuns?
Did Bips convert to be a nun while we were not looking and she was supposed to walk on water?
she's a human.. and believe it or not, celebs are human who someitmes do make mistakes. everyone one of them.

she posted a photo that appeared offensive and in bad taste, as it depicted kids doing labor service (and yes -- people insinuated that she had hired kids with no proof).

she denied she had hired chilren and said they were her friend and sis (which ppl questioned)... and removed the photo after realizing it was a mistake.

now it's like a free-for-all... she's a celeb we admire, dammit! We have to get her !!! We caught her! she's done something in callous taste and she needs to get flaked for it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you guys are looking at your celebs to be your moral guardians, no wonder India is so off-track!

    ReplyDelete
  12. -> isn't that why she removed the photo? she felt she made a mistake and tried to rectify it. so what is the fuss exactly?

  13. it's bizzare that there are people who are admitting they use or know children in India for service.. but think it's wrong of her to post a picture-- even if she was innocent and it's her sisters. guess it must be something like we have child-labor law violations , but our celebs must HIDE IT. Guess we don't want the West to know..

Rather the opposite, it would be nice if our celebs were like Hollywood celebs and shook and exposed our society's secrets.

It would have been nice if Aish used the forum to tell ppl about the color issue-- even though she did advertise for Fair &Lovely. and it would be nice if Bips could use this forum for a better cause to help the kids who are suffering..

  14. I've a problem with the general idea of someone tying ur shoes even if they are your own sisters. No patience for tying laces..that's a new one !!! I wonder who did it for her when she was in school ??

    As for Amitabh......diplomatic much !!

    ReplyDelete
  15. it's a shame that someone of her calibre will be so callous, it might not be child labour, but sure as hell portrays it....thats the problem ,she might have fame and money , but lacks BRAINS which is sad..celebs should be careful of what they broadcast to the world..everything they do is scrutanised and she should know this...

    ReplyDelete
  16. -> shame on you ! this is NOT a laughing matter.

shame on us all for just trying to shove this national epidemic under the rug.
we need India's economics to improve to solve this national tragedy. Our kids are our future- and they are all beautiful in every shape, size and color. Each has a special potential that is unique!!!

    Wonderfully said, Fashionista.

  17. REALLY?? REALLY?? you're joking right? you really think she can get in trouble for this??? child labor is massive in india and i have YET to see if they do anything. also, please stop being over dramatic. they are tying laces it is not child labor.

    ReplyDelete
  18. hhhaa hhaaa.. the Indian Child Labor law people have been dozing off for decades, while kids are working to survive in India.. and the Lab law people are taking them off jobs to become homeless with no food. and worse still, everyone has dozed off cause not one person bothers to call any authority when they see kids working. no jobs out there for them, no education.. and no one willing to adopt them to give them a better life. yeah.. let's keep calling Bips arrogant.. that will solve this whole mess.

    ReplyDelete
  19. ummmmmmmmm , where is this arrogance???. she says she's embarassed that she doesn't know how to tie laces and needs to learn asap. for all you know, her sis and friend could have been teaching her.

that does NOT sound like arrogance.

mountains out of thin air for some of you!
you all WANT her to be doing someone wrong to get a juicy bite of gossip.. even if she had no such intention of arrogrance or even hired any child. but then if we move the discussion on how to help the kids, it's back to biting Bips as she's arrogant. how sad !

    ReplyDelete
  20. the one on the right doesn't even look like a kid-- but in fact , an adult. how do you guys exactly know these are children hired by her to do labor jobs... you cannot even see their faces.
